About the artist
Sage Szkabarnicki-Stuart frequently uses her own body as the subject, creating brightly lit scenes that are both banal and humorous. By inserting herself into carefully composed scenes, Szkabarnicki-Stuart forces the viewer to confront the impact of humans and our consumption on flora and fauna. In urban settings, we may feel disconnected from nature, but many of the works invite us to contemplate that relationship. Her work also asks what defines a place as home? By highlighting aspects of the day-to-day that are embedded in routine, Szkabarnicki-Stuart’s work gives us a new awareness of the places we call home. Sage Szkabarnicki-Stuart is represented by Michael Gibson Gallery.
