About the artist
Sangmin Lee was born and raised in the densest high-rise community in Canada, St. James Town (Toronto, ON). Despite its shortcomings, it is one of the most ethnically rich neighbourhoods in North America and is sometimes known as “the world within a block.” Here, between walls of plaster and concrete hallways echo stories of immigration as integration, displacement and cultural survival, centering the heart of his practice.
